This video is taken in the 3rd Team Workout on Sunday morning. Grant, Cheyne, Sabrina & Josh did a great job and finished second in their heat and 18th overall.
Today’s workout includes five elements that progress from deadlifts to thruster using both a barbell and dumbbells. It totals 10 minutes of work and 2.5 minutes of programmed rest, which is not enough to recover. The opening deadlift segment is a gift that is quickly taken away.
Workout of the Day:
“Change of Venue”
One Barbell(m-95lbs/f-65lbs) One Set of Dumbbells(m-45lbs/f-30lbs)
1 minute of work – 30 seconds of rest – Change element
Barbell Deadlifts
Dumbbell Power Cleans(leading edge of dumbbell touches the floor)
Barbell Squat Cleans
Dumbbell Squat Clean & Jerks(leading edge of dumbbell touches the floor)
Barbell Thruster
Dumbbell Thrusters
Barbell Squat Clean & Jerks
Dumbbell Squat Cleans(leading edge of dumbbell touches the floor)
Barbell Power Cleans
Dumbbell Deadlifts(leading edge of dumbbell touches the floor)
I try to walk away from each WOD with greater knowedge of myself and how I react to the movements involved in each element. So with this change in venue I did learn quite a bit, first and foremost I am no good with dumbells in my hands. My score will prove it. I think, if it's alright with the Coaches I'd like to start mixing dumbell movements in whenever we have barbell type WODs. I also learned that at the bottom of a squat clean my elbows were sagging and not outfront and high up, which is probably what was causing me to get stuck at the bottom and inevitably ditching my barbell. Mahalos to Coach Josh for pointing out my elbows may be the solution to my squat clean dilema and big Mahalo to the creator of "change of venue", I learn something new everyday at HAF!
Well said Austin! This was a great workout. I actually feel like I should go after it again. I decided to take a "smiley face" at the beginning and pretty much sand bagged the whole thing because I knew it was going to be hard…hard on the hands, hard on the legs, hard on the back, hard on the lungs, but most importantly, hard on the mind. It wasn't until Elyse started yelling at me at the very end that I got into it. I was so disappointed that I didn't go after it that way from the beginning. This wod deserves better!!
your right about the mind struggle Maila. Technical dynamics aside my biggest battle is in my mind, story of my life right ? haha. I'm having a huge problem stepping out of my mental state of physical comfort. I go into rest at the first inkling of lactic acid build up, or burn and I rest frequently during WODs. Basically my mind gives up before my body does, and I really want to change that because at the end of a WOD I get what I've dubbed Sandbaggers Remorse, that feeling of knowing I could have done way better but gave in to my own idea of training "comfortably". Once I get over that hurdle I'll be sure to start building on intensity, easier said than done.
Oh and PS Maila- theres no way you sandbagged with your super high score!
good 1 Austin! "sandbaggers remorse" i often have that too and i hate it!
